Concrete monsters built for belligerence they maybe, but one cannot ignore that they have a strange kind of beauty in their now abandoned state: German coastal artillery bunkers on the Atlantic Wall, Northern France.
One of the very few large German bunkers still in existence from WW1; this is the Ziegler Bunker near Ypres. It was used for artillery range finding, the large open window having a signalling lamp installed for that purpose.
