We were particularly uplifted by the recent BBC program presented by Dan Snow telling the story so far of the search for the lost Nazi train in Poland. Many of Dan Snow's past documentaries have suffered from poorly researched facts and pointlessly naive presenters making idiotic statements but this documentary was absolutely spot on in all respects. The viewer learned much about the background to the story of the lost train and greatly enlightened about just what an amazing area this part of Poland is to the Military Historian. Dan Snow admitted that he was very skeptical about the entire treasure hunters tale but as he went on to meet many interesting people on his sojourn it became increasingly clear that the Germans did in fact build or were planning to build a huge underground complex called Project Riese just South of Walbrzych. It is likely that if the lost train or trains did exist then this would be where they would certainly have been hidden. We met the two men who have staked many thousands of Euros paying for excavation equipment and as the programme closed with Dan Snow sat next to one very deep and empty hole he calmly said to camera that so far there were "No Tunnels, No Nazi's, No Trains and No Gold". We were left though after interviewing one or two local enthusiasts with the tantalising assumption that perhaps after all the money so far spent on searching, that the two original men might indeed be digging in the wrong place; Lets hope we hear more about this next year.
