Our new page on the truth behind the ill fated Dieppe raid of 19th August 1942 has been published. This has been quite an undertaking involving painstaking research through numerous records and cross referencing written accounts about the raid in the many books available on the subject. The highlight of our work has certainly been the view from our perspective of today; all previously published material was written without knowing why the raid was even sanctioned or it's true purpose. This has lead to many errors and misunderstandings from various accounts particularly those written by the men that were actually there. We hope that our article will be appreciated by those that will acknowledge the 75th anniversary in August of this year and in particular bring a little more clarity about the 1942 raid on Dieppe to those wishing to learn the real truth of it all.
Our most comprehensive page yet is on its way; The story behind the Dieppe Raid of 19th August 1942. With the 75th anniversary coming up this year we feel that it is the right time to tell the recently researched story, gleened from newly declasified documents, about why this ill fated raid was sanctioned with the result of condemning nearly 1000 men to death. Much has been written about justifying this attack with most of the answers passed off as "it was a trial run for D-Day". Which it certainly was not.
