We are closing our research, for now; on the Castle Hill 6 inch battery and our new page dedicated to this wartime relic will be up dated very soon. The site is passed by thousands of people every year that walk up the hill past it where glorious view out to see are to be had. There have been mixed views about this structure in many published local history books with some even saying that it dates back to the Great War years; this simply isn't the case as it was instigated in November 1941 and completed ready for action by June 1943. Spring still seems far away but in reality it's just round the corner. We are hoping now to finish off all the lose ends on the Newhaven pages and to be ready for a Spring of site photography and new research. We are planning a return trip to the Dover cross channel batteries in March to locate the sites of the last two large guns that returned fire on the French coast and the German heavy batteries located there.
The big event this year will be the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme on 1st July. There promises to be many events taking place in Picardy, France and we will be there during this period; though one hopes that the European Football timetable will not ruin it all for those of us who cannot stand the over inflated game!!
Our new updated website starts in March and new video footage both archival and that created by ourselves will soon be available to view. More soon, Steve
