He was serving on the sector near Hill 40 at Zonnebeke and on the 27th Sept. was posted as one of ten soldiers missing during a sustained but repulsed German artillery attack against the British line. John was living at 81, Main Street, Bishop Monkton, nr Ripon, Yorkshire and was the son of a Game keeper. He had a younger sister Alice, who was 17 at the time of his death.
John received the awards of the British War Medal and the Victory Medal but not the 1914 Star, which suggests that he joined up after the war started. His Service Record is missing and i have not been able to locate a photograph of him.
John Richardson is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial to the missing and has no known grave; just swallowed up into the mud of Passchendaele along with thousands of his kin. May we never forget them all!!
